All-in-One Home Storage, Torn Open: One Cabinet Does Solar, Storage, and Inverting

A split home solar setup makes you size the inverter, wire the battery, and tune parameters yourself. This all-in-one cabinet packs the battery, inverter, and MPPT controller into one box. A teardown of what is actually inside.

A home solar-plus-storage project is rarely killed by cost. It is killed by integration. A split setup makes you buy the battery, inverter, and MPPT controller separately, then size voltages, run the wiring, and tune parameters yourself — work most homeowners cannot do. This residential all-in-one packs all three into one cabinet: connect the panels and your loads and it runs.

What is inside the cabinet

Open the door and you see, top to bottom: the battery modules, the inverter, and the MPPT controller. The battery is LiFePO4, rated 6,000-8,000 cycles — far longer-lived than lead-acid. The inverter turns the battery's DC into the AC your home uses, and the MPPT controller pulls solar efficiently into the pack.

A split system spreads these three across separate boxes with a tangle of cabling; more connectors means more failure points. An all-in-one ships integrated, which removes most of the design and wiring.

Automatic switchover

Models with ATS take over the instant grid power drops, so the fridge and router keep running. Without ATS you switch manually, and if the grid fails while you sleep you will not know until morning. Ask specifically whether ATS is included.

Sizing the capacity

For a real blackout, a household needs the fridge, a few lights, and phone charging — one or two kWh a day is enough. Do not let anyone talk you into a unit that runs the whole-house AC; it costs more than double and sits idle most of the time. Add 20-30% margin for the coldest month rather than sizing to summer.

Installation notes

Batteries hate heat and moisture. Keep the cabinet indoors, dry, and ventilated — not in an unheated garage. In cold climates choose a BMS with low-temp cutoff; charging below freezing plates metallic lithium and wrecks the pack within a few cycles.
