Stackable LiFePO4 Battery: Modular Storage That Grows With Your Load

People oversize their first battery and regret it, or undersize and run dark by winter. A stackable LiFePO4 battery breaks that trap: you start with one 5 kWh module and clip on more as your load grows. But stacking is not free — the BMS has to coordinate, and most buyers miss where it breaks.

What "stackable" actually means

Each module is a self-contained 48V (51.2V nominal) LiFePO4 pack in a rack-mount or floor cabinet shell. You bolt them side by side and link them through a communication bus so the BMS treats them as one bank. Add a module, and your usable capacity steps up by that module's size — typically 5 kWh per unit.

Where it beats an all-in-one unit

An all-in-one box is simpler to install and looks clean, but its capacity is fixed. If your demand grows — an EV charger, a heat pump, a workshop — you replace the whole unit. A stackable system just takes another module. For anyone whose load is still changing, modular wins on total cost over five years.

The three caveats buyers miss

1. Module matching

Do not mix capacities in one stack. A 100Ah next to a 200Ah unbalances during charge and discharge, and most stackable BMS designs assume identical packs. Keep a stack to one capacity class, or you quietly lose capacity to the weakest link.

2. BMS coordination limit

The inverter sets the ceiling, not the modules. A typical home stack runs 2-6 modules (10-30 kWh). Past that you need parallel BMS coordination, which not every system supports. Ask the factory for the max stack count before you design around it.

3. Thermal and spacing

Stacked packs sit close, and close packs share heat. In a hot equipment room, one module's heat raises its neighbor's degradation. Leave airflow between cabinets and keep the room under 35°C, or you trade expansion convenience for a shorter pack life.

What we ship

Our stackable 51.2V modules use Grade-A cells rated 6,000-8,000 cycles, each with a batch test report showing per-cell capacity and internal resistance. BMS includes low-temp cutoff and active balancing, and the comms bus syncs up to the factory-rated stack count. If your load is still moving, that is the safer bet than a fixed box.
