UAE Conformity for Imported LiFePO4 Batteries (the ESMA Question)
Buyers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi ask for "ESMA" on the battery, but ESMA as a name no longer runs conformity. What they actually need is ECAS registration backed by the right IEC marks. Here is the current path.
ECAS registration, not "ESMA cert"
ESMA's market-access functions now sit under the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, and the UAE runs the Emirates Conformity Assessment System (ECAS). For a stationary LiFePO4 pack you register through ECAS and, for many electrical products, carry the Emirates Quality Mark (EQM). When you talk to a UAE-approved lab, ask for the "ECAS certificate of conformity."
The IEC marks that carry it
The technical basis is IEC 62619 for the stationary battery, IEC 62133-2 for the cells, IEC 63056 for the battery system, plus UN38.3 for transport. We ship every UAE order with this set ready. The full mark list and what each proves is in our battery certifications guide, and the verification method in our certification verify guide.
Grid-tied adds a utility step
For grid-connected storage, DEWA (Dubai) and ADDC (Abu Dhabi) can require their own approval on top of ECAS. Off-grid and backup systems usually clear on ECAS plus the IEC marks. Confirm with the utility for the specific emirate before you promise a commissioning date. The import paperwork side is in our China import guide.
Free-zone re-export
JAFZA and other free zones let you hold and re-export without clearing UAE customs, which suits distributors serving the wider Gulf. ECAS still applies the moment the battery enters the mainland market, so keep the file complete either way.
Shipping LiFePO4 to the UAE?
We prep ECAS-ready files (IEC 62619, 62133-2, 63056, UN38.3) and route via JAFZA for re-export. Tell us the emirate and grid-tied or off-grid.

What certificate does the UAE require for LiFePO4 batteries?
Importers register through ECAS and carry the Emirates Quality Mark for many products. The technical basis is IEC 62619, IEC 62133-2, IEC 63056, plus UN38.3.
Is ESMA still the body that certifies?
ESMA's conformity functions now sit under the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, and the UAE operates ECAS for market access.
Do I need a separate approval for grid-tied systems?
For grid-connected storage, DEWA and ADDC can add their own approval on top of ECAS. Off-grid and backup usually clear on ECAS plus the IEC marks.
Can I re-export from a UAE free zone?
Yes. JAFZA and other free zones simplify holding and re-export; ECAS still applies when the battery enters the mainland market.
