Sizing an Off-Grid Solar System for a Vietnamese Home: 1000 kWh/Month, Worked Out

Using a Vietnamese household at 1000 kWh/month and the local ~5 sun-hours/day, this walks step by step to the PV kilowatts, inverter size, and battery kilowatt-hours you actually need — plus roof types and panel count.

Plenty of customers ask "my home uses 1000 kWh a month, what size system do I need" — this Vietnamese case works it through. Vietnam averages about 5 sun-hours/day, so we size from there.

Daily usage first

1000 kWh/month ÷ 30 days = 34 kWh/day. Target daily generation is 40 kWh, leaving margin for losses and cloudy days.

How much PV

40 kWh ÷ 5 sun-hours = 8 kW theoretical. With PV losses, configure 10 kW of panels in practice — 620W standardized modules, 16-18 pieces to reach 10 kW.

Inverter and battery

A 10 kW 220V single-phase inverter, and there is a 12 kW model at no extra cost — take it if available. Battery at 30 kWh, or a single 32 kWh module for 6.7% more margin on cloudy days.

Roof types

Most homes mount on their own roof: glazed tile, flat concrete, or metal sheet. The first two dominate; the bracket is designed per roof type, not a one-size-fits-all frame.

What the full system includes

PV modules, combiner box, PV cabling, inverter and battery, MC4 connectors, mounting rails, and an AC breaker. This integrated package is our highest-volume system, with one-stop install and after-sales for end users.

How it runs

By day the PV feeds the load directly and stores the surplus; when PV falls short, the battery covers it. Learn usage first, then PV size, then battery — in that order.
